Incredible mid/late 1940s raincoat! These were called “three way” raincoats because they have detachable hoods and belts that can be worn several different ways. Like multiple coats in one! I believe this one is unworn, as it still has a sticker inside from the manufacturer describing the rain repellent coating. It’s made of wine colored gabardine, with a button front, dagger collar, and those quintessentially 40s padded shoulders. There’s even a little button tab inside to keep the coat from blowing open. The last two pics are ads from 1949 and 1947
FITS LIKE: Best fits medium but could also work for a small or large.
BUST: up to 44”
WAIST: 46” (unbelted)
FLAWS: an area of slight discoloration on one shoulder, and along the cuff hems. There is a button hole at the very top but I don’t see evidence that there ever was a button there — no thread remnants or needle marks. I wonder if this was for threading a scarf through?
