Incredible, unusual swimsuit by Catalina circa 1946. (See pics for ads!) Made of rayon jersey with the coolest merman/Neptune/posieden print. It’s a “sarong style” with panels that drape across the hips and tie together in a keyhole in the center. There’s a hidden drawstring in the waist. The top echos the bottoms, with a keyhole bust. This, along with the halter straps, make it quite adjustable and able to fit a variety of sizes.
It’s just such a special piece! I’ve never seen one quite like it. It’s also really flattering, comfortable, and easy to wear, which is a rarity when it comes to vintage suits, in my experience.
FITS LIKE: xs/s/m
BUST: hard to measure but I’d say this fits about a 32-36 A-C
HIPS: up to 40”
FLAWS: there is some color bleed throughout. IMO it isn’t super distracting because of the painterly print. Also, you don’t have to worry about color bleed when wearing this in the water — I wore it in the ocean and it was fine. I think I either left it soaking for too long or used water that was too hot when I cleaned it. Anyway, it presents great and when will you see one again?!
