Hands down the best assuit shawl I’ve ever come across! It’s absolutely massive — 83 inches long and 41 inches wide — and almost entirely covered in metal stitches. It’s incredibly heavy, and it drapes and glistens beautifully as you move! Pure magic!

Oversized assuit shawls like this one were made to cater to ultra wealthy European tourists. They were called piano scarves because they were made to drape over a baby grand piano (they were worn though, too!) After 1918, Egyptian artisans stopped making them, in favor of smaller Art Deco pieces that suited both the style and budget of the upper middle class western tourists flooding in as egyptomania took hold.

This one features dense metal embroidery with triangular motifs around the border, to protect the wearer from the evil eye.  Condition is very good, with just a couple missing stitches and an area of tarnish on one end near the hem.

Layaway is available!
